TAG Today: The Role of Founder Alan C. Tan

Today's Holdings Company would not be possible without the many individuals who have contributed to the operations of the organization since our founding as Alan's Hyperstudio Club in 1996. However, it is important to note that the contributions and vision of our Holdings Company's founder, Alan C. Tan, ever since his decision to start this organization in 1996, has been extremely important to building the foundation that supports today's Holdings Company.

Alan trying to prove his worthiness

The Situations that our company's founder was faced with throughout the first ten operating years of the Company gave the resolve and the determination needed to keep our Founder energized. While the limited individuals that know the true story behind our Company's founder's personal life and events that resulted in the founding of the Corporation in 1996 as a computer club and all of the intertwined events over the next ten years have stated that these are events that no individual should have to ever go through, it is these situations, as negative as they may be, that has helped our founder to build the Company to where it is today.

Many of the same people who created these negative situations for the Company to ultimately grow on also doubted the ultimate success of the business. They considered it a joke. Many others had claimed that the corporation's founder was seeing a vision that was unrealizable. They said that he should focus on today, the present, and now. That included the notion of "image" and "perceptions". It is through trying to prove all of these individuals wrong that gave our founder, Alan Tan, the resolve he needed to ultimately prove these individuals wrong while building the Corporation to today's Holdings Company.

Alan seeing something worthy to work for

The Vision of our company's Founder given the situation that he personally faced allowed our company to name our purpose, values, and vision of the future, even though at the time, many individuals involved with the new computer club didn't understand what it was. Most of them wanted to become a business but didn't know how. The goals set by these young individuals, including our company's Founder, set the stage for the building of today's Corporation.

Over the years, more individuals became involved with this organization. Many have tried to create rivalries or flat out try to shut down the organization, for unknown reasons. It was the resolve of the Company's Founder, and his determination to keep what he built alive to reach the ultimate goal of creating a legitimate and profitable business in 2001 that resulted in the eventual conversion of this organization to a incorporated entity in 2004.

Alan and the Values of the Company

When the Company was founded in 1996, Alan named the mission to be to help others in Hyperstudio. With the ever changing vision that started in 1997, the values of the Corporation have been summed up in many words, even essays at one point, but in 2007, the values of the Corporation can be grouped into four logical values. It is the many negative situations that Alan has personally faced, the vision that Alan saw in this Company, and the resolve to do something about his situation that resulted in the Company's guiding vision, mission, and values today.

The Holdings Company's values and purpose will always stay the same. It may be amended over time, but like all other companies, those who lose their values and purpose will ultimately fail. It is the single greatest contribution that Alan has given this company. By always resolving to help others in what we know, providing excellent customer service to everyone that we serve, and encouraging the continued leadership of minorities in this company through our diversity initiatives, the Holdings Company and all of its operating business units have, in itself, taken on Alan's values, his mission of helping others, and serves the purpose of being the outlet of Alan's values and mission. In those statements, the vision of the Company and the future of it's opeations is clear.

Alan finding the people to get the job done

It should be no surprise that the Founder of the Company has been typed as a person who can be called "The General". He is a natural leader, who will step in, make decisions, and get things done. However, the greatest skill that Alan has would be to find the resources to get things done. Alan himself is quite capable, after all, his Chinese name can be constructed to mean "Superman", but regardless, Alan himself has limitations. So, it is important that the Company has the people it needs to be successful.

While Alan himself has contributed financially, materially, and fundamentally to this Company, he also found the other people who he hoped to contribute to the Company's future. During this process, Alan sometimes invited people he saw potential in but ultimately failed the company. It is through these lessons that the Company grew from. While these people may have set the Company one step back, the leadership of the Company also learned major lessons that led to internal changes that put the company three steps forward. These lessons and contributions cannot all be attributed to Alan solely though, it is a contribution made by all who have been involved with the Company.

Alan finding his true friends to help him through his journey

One of the values Alan has instilled in this Company is the value of Helping Others. It is through helping others that Alan has been able to meet many new people. In turn, it has led Alan to find many people he can consider friends, but more importantly, it has led Alan to find several individuals he can call his circle of close friends. It has also shown Alan personally many relationships that wouldn't work out - including those Alan may have "liked". Many of these individuals have faithfully served in the Company with Alan since its inception in 1996. All except one of Alan's small circle of close friends in the year 2007 have served time in the Corporation. The contribution of the ability to balance friendship with the need to operate the Holdings Company as a business has allowed the Company to continue growing, without jeopardizing the friendship and trust that Alan has in the leadership of the company he founded along with the operating business units of the Company.

The Company has also provided the ability to see individuals affiliated with the Company for who they really are. Many of those who did not last in the Company had one thing in common - they needed "image" gratification, and they needed it now. They were more interested in the "label" for something that they did rather than the values of the Corporation. The Company, through being the ultimate arbiter of Alan's founding values, has shown Alan, and the leadership of the Company, who people can really trust, and who the true friends of the Founder really are. While the future of the Company may not allow this to always be the case as the Company continues to grow, it is fitting to say that one of the contributions of Alan has been the people and the friendships generated by the people within the Company.

Alan providing the leadership for today's Holdings Company

Finally, the most obvious contribution of Alan to the Company is his leadership. Without the leadership of a strong President armed with the determination to prove himself worthy, the values that he believes in, the people that he identified to solve the business's needs, the organization that he built and continues to direct, and the resulting vision has allowed the Company to grow to where it is today. Alan believes in friendship above all else. He also believes that the ultimate road to happiness is vested in his friends, and by extension, this Company. The Company has given him as much as he has given to the Company that he founded.

It is also fitting to add that Alan, during the course of building this Company, has always wanted to make sure that he built this company to ensure that it couldn't be taken advantage of. It lines up with his personal visions and values.
